Parijs Van Java (part 3)

If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay home. ~James Michener

You know the feeling when you delayed something long enough, you eventually lost the eagerness to finish it. (unless of course your boss or lecturer is breathing down you neck and you have no where to run).

Enough with me babbling...lets get back to business or should I say holiday, the trip tale to Bandung city or how the Dutch would said it 'Parijs Van Java' (Paris in the Java). How that came about..well during the Dutch accupation the city was picked as tea plantation area since the climate is a lot cooler all year round and with that came the need to have some sort of goverment city, so Bandung gradually was develope into a resort city for the plantation owners. Luxurious hotels, restaurants, cafes and European boutiques were build to carter all the needs. It was the mini Paris for the Dutch hence came the name 'Parijs Van Java'.

One the way to Bandung

Today even though the Dutch is long gone, Bandung is still dubb as Paris of the Java since it houses many factory outlet stores and home to leather craft, shoes, bags and textiles. So in a way it is still the fashion city of Indonesia. For shopaholics...this city is probably the proverbial godsend heaven.

Shopaholics heaven

The city is quite crowded but the amazing thing is when asked whether there are a lot of accident accuring the answer is no. Apparently despite having two way lanes that turned into four lanes street and motocycles crowding the street, accident seldom happens. Unlike Malaysia that is equipped with nice clean four lanes street but have accidents happening left and right. (which explained the peace and calm Unit Gawat Darurat which I got the chance to visit..hehehe)

The crowded city versus the calm, peaceful ans sterile emergency unit. (the mind boggles)

Although if you want to enjoy a little bit a nature you can always visit Gunung Tangkuban Perahu to see the volcano or enjoy the hot spring. (hot....very hot spring).
The Volcanic Gunung Ratu at Tangkuban Perahu...somehow it reminds me of 'Hikayat Panji Semerang'. The story about a princess who disguise herself as a man in order to find and save her fiance from the clutch of the her evil stepmother and stepsister. This is no damsel in distress, this damsel kicks butt. The mountains remind me of her uncles and aunties who lives as god and goddess in the mountains.

Bandung is basically the home of the Sundanese people, if you have an ear for it, you can detect the slightest Sunda accent when they speak. Thus the Nasi Sunda came into view but after a few days of eating rice we decided to eat good old McDonald's instead....if I only knew....

I'm just glad that it knocked me out six ways from Sunday after the shopping spree has ended...

When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money. ~Susan Heller
