Tutorial: Changing web hosting or domain registrar (part 2)

In first part of this series, I wrote about changing domain registrar and web hosting from one company to the other. In this part, I will explain about changing web hosting without changing domain registrar or setting-up your web hosting after you already bought the domain name.

Remember hosting service and domain registration came in different account. It can be both with the same company, or sit under different company. How to go about changing web server or linking your domain name to a web hosting server.

1. Go on a shopping spree to buy a hosting service that you'll think is suitable for you. Get one with an easy to manage file manager, preferably Cpanel or Plesk. Once payment is complete, you will receive and email from the hosting company stating 2 DNS nameserver address. (something looking like this 123.12.41.40)

2. Copy that number, now login to your domain account (not the hosting company) and find the domain information, there will be DNS nameserver address somewhere on the page, edit the information in that with the DNS nameserver your acquired from the hosting company.

Done! Now you can start uploading your web files into the web hosting account and see it when you navigate to your domain address.

Please be reminded sometimes it takes up to 48 hours to propagate from the new hosting site, so don't delete your old web hosting yet. Wait until email and other related products are all live before terminating your old hosting service.

For those just linking domain name, propagating web from the new hosting will still takes time and you might not get to see your web page yet at this point when you navigate to the web address. Check again after 24-48 hours.
