Trust fund set up to improve public transport
KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet has approved the setting up of a Public Transportation Trust Fund with an allocation of RM4.4bil, the savings the Government derived from its reduction of subsidy for fuel prices.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office yesterday said that the fund would be used to finance projects that would enhance the standard of public transportation, such as:
·IMPROVING the system of integration of public transportation among the bus, Light Rail Transit (LRT), monorail and KTM (Keretapi Tanah Melayu) commuter services;
·IMPROVING the standard of bus services, particularly in terms of coverage and frequency of services; and
·EXPANDING the networks of the monorail and LRT systems.
After announcing an increase of 30 sen in the prices of petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) on Feb 28, the Government said the savings from the reduction of its subsidy would be used for development projects, particularly to improve the public transportation system in the country.
It also said the Government was confident the efforts to improve the public transportation system would enhance the services provided and give greater comfort to the users.
“This will indirectly encourage greater use of public transport,” the statement said. (source: Bernama)
Who said the governent doenn't love you...see, there are giving all this funds to improve public tranportation. The only thing I'm concern is...who else beside the people who live in KL that will benefits from this....I mean LRT, Monorail..etc. Like or not, no other people will ever benefit from this fund except KL...they impose the oil price on everyone but not everyone will benefits from it
Come on! I live in Penang where public transport is an ancient history..as prehistoric as the Dinosour. Try the mini bus...the tyres, window and engine will come off any time. Taxi is something only the tourists ride..if they didn't know that there are being ripe off alive by taxi driver who cut throat. Beca?..are you kidding me...it only something you put on tourism brochure. Explain why in Penang there are more cars than people. Same can be said to the public transportation in other countries as well.
Ohh by the way there are a few outside KL that enjoy more benefit
Cheaper fuel for fishermen and boatmen
By SYED AZHAR and LEE MEI NYEE
KUALA LUMPUR: Effective June 1, coastal fishermen who use petrol-powered outboard motors will only have to pay RM1 per litre for the fuel. And, with immediate effect, those who provide boat services in remote areas of Sabah and Sarawak need only pay RM1.20 per litre of diesel. (source The Star)
Peole who lives in ULu Tembeling will certainly apreciate this move..less price for diesel. Yeay! err..I guess things like pipes, electricity, phone line...aren't that important for these people in the area. We certainly know our priority.
